New Options For Iowa Hunting and Fishing Licenses begin Saturday December 15th

DNR logoIowa residents may begin purchasing hunting and fishing licenses for 2013 on Saturday December 15th.

License fees remain unchanged for 2013. The last increase for a hunting license was in 2002, and for fishing license was 2003. Vendor fees were increased and passed on to the license buyer in 2010 to help offset the cost of developing the second generation electronic license system for Iowa.

2012 licenses are valid through Jan. 10, 2013. Starting Jan. 1, hunters and anglers will have new licenses from which to choose, including:

Bonus Line License – allowing resident and nonresident anglers to fish with one additional line (the regular fishing license allows two), for $12.

Outdoor Combo License –annual resident hunting/fishing/habitat combo license for $47.

Angler’s Special – a three-year fishing license (for 2013 license purchases, it will expire Jan. 10, 2016) for $53.

Hunter’s Special – a three-year hunting license with habitat included (for 2013 license purchases, it will expire Jan. 10, 2016) for $86.

These new license offerings were developed based on results from a license buyer survey that helped the DNR identify customer needs. The new licenses offer time saving convenience of purchasing a bundled license, lessens the worry about expiring every year and expands fishing opportunities with a new third line option.

Orabs And Dutch Split Basketball Doubleheader

Orab-LogoThe Sheldon Orabs and MOC Floyd Valley Dutch split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday night at Orab Gym. The girl’s game went to the Lady Dutch 59-23 with Sheldon taking the boy’s game 44-42.

In the girls game MOC Floyd Valley opened a 16-6 first quarter lead and was up 27-10 at halftime as they went on to the win. Alexis Conaway hit for a game high 29 points with 16 coming before halftime. Emily Mc Donald added 13. Sheldon was led by Abbie Provost with 8 points on the night.

With the win MOC Floyd Valley remains unbeaten on the year at 6-0 in the conference and 7-0 for the season. Sheldon moves to 2-4 in the Siouxland and 2-5 on the year.

In the boys game that followed Sheldon held on for a 44-42 win. At the end of the first quarter Sheldon led 13-6 and held a 25-22 halftime advantage. At the end of three the Orange had pushed it to a 10-point lead at 39-29.

a 13-4 run in the fourth quarter by the Dutch pulled them to within a point at 43-42 with 1:28 to play. The Orabs were able to hold off the Dutch and stay unbeaten on the year.

With a fraction of a second left Chris Balster was fouled and hit the front end of a one and one to make the final score 44-42. Balster purposely missed the second free throw and MOC Floyd Valley was unable to get off a shot as the game officially came to a close.

With the win Sheldon moves to 5-0 in the conference and 7-0 on the season handing MOC Floyd Valley their first loss of the year as they dip to 4-1 in both the conference and for the season.
