Trivial rule further slowing backlogs at U.S. ports

IARN — It’s aggravating enough when progress is slowed by things we cannot control. It is even more aggravating when it is human error that leads to slowdowns and backlogs. However, when you add unnecessary rules, agreements, or privileges, that is downright infuriating. This is what is happening in U.S. shipping ports.

The nation’s ports have been battling backlog and disruption for over two years now, and there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of this shipping tunnel. Ray Bowman is an international trade consultant and Program Chair for the District Export Council of Southern California. He talks about a little-known agreement that is causing the delays in shipping to be even worse. This is called the “Box Rule.”
