Spencer Man Charged With Passing Funny Money In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A Spencer man was arrested Wednesday night on an O’Brien County warrant charging him with Felony Forgery in connection with three counterfeit bills that were passed in Sheldon in September.

Sheldon Police say three counterfeit bills, two $100 bills and one $50 bill, were passed at the Cenex station, located in Sheldon Crossing. According to authorities, it was realized that the bills were counterfeit when it was discovered that all three bills had the exact same serial number.

Officers say their investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for 22-year old Trenten Howard Stallings, of Spencer, in connection with the alleged crime.

Sheldon Police say Stallings was arrested in Clay County last evening (Wednesday, November 1st) by Clay County authorities, then transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, charged with Forgery, a Class D Felony, for allegedly passing the counterfeit bills.

If convicted, Stallings would face up to five years in prison on the charge.
