Five Fire Departments Battle House Fire Near Doon

Doon, Iowa– A house was destroyed in a fire on Thursday, January 24, 2019, near Doon.

According to Doon Assistant Chief Blake Van Bemmel, about 12:05 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a house on fire at 2642 Elmwood Avenue, three miles west and a half a mile south of Doon on K30.

The assistant chief says the fire department saw lots of smoke as they approached the scene.

Van Bemmel says a dog may have been lost in the fire, but no one was in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire department was assisted by fire fighters from Rock Valley, Alvord, Inwood, and Hull.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Assistant Chief Van Bemmel reports that the house was totally destroyed and the remaining beams were taken down by an excavator.

He says they used about 40,000 to 50,0000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the approximately 40 firefighters who responded were on scene for about five hours.
