Former Rock Rapids Man Arrested On Rape, Burglary Charges

Sioux Falls, SD — A former Rock Rapids man has been arrested on felony charges in Sioux Falls after an incident on January 5th in Sioux Falls.

According to Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens, 38-year-old Donald Bolan Jr. was arrested on a warrant Thursday night in northwestern Sioux Falls. The warrant charged him with two counts of burglary and one count of second-degree rape.

Clemens says that a woman reported that she was alone in her Sioux Falls apartment on January 5th and was sleeping in her room when she woke up and saw a man in her room. Court records indicate that during the sexual assault, the man told her that her ex-boyfriend, Chad told him that this was her fantasy. She told him that she had never dated a “Chad.” Court records say that’s when the man began to panic, telling her he was in the wrong place. Clemens says they have not confirmed that story.

Clemens says some evidence found near the scene led investigators to believe that Bolan was a suspect in the crime. The evidence included an ID card, documents with Bolan’s name, and DNA evidence, according to Clemens. He says the Sioux Falls Area Joint Fugitive Task Force was key in finding Bolan.

According to Clemens, the victim and Bolan do not know each other. He says that’s somewhat unusual in sexual assault and rape cases.

Bolan’s bond was set at $100,000. At last report, he remained in the Minnehaha County Jail in Sioux Falls.
