Hawarden Man Charged With Felony OWI

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden man has been arrested on a felony drunk driving charge.

According to court documents, the Hawarden Police Department arrested 52-year-old Billy McClish of Hawarden on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated, third offense, a class D felony. The document notes that the other offenses were in Missouri and New Hampshire.

The arresting officer states in the complaint that he was a witness to McClish entering a motor vehicle while he carried the odor of alcoholic beverage. The officer says McClish then proceeded onto the roadway. He was stopped and was arrested. According to the officer, McClish failed field sobriety tests and refused to take any chemical tests to determine blood alcohol level and was subsequently charged with the Operating While Intoxicated offense.
