House Fire Destroys Rural Doon Home

Doon, Iowa — A house was destroyed in a fire on Monday, August 31, 2020, near Doon.

According to Doon Fire Chief Blake Van Bemmel, about 4:50 a.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a garage on fire at 2432 Franklin Boulevard, about a mile northeast of Doon.

The chief says the fire department saw the garage was fully engulfed in flame, with fire spreading to the house as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Van Bemmel says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Alvord and Rock Valley Fire Departments.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but they wonder about lightning, which was in the area at the time.

Chief Van Bemmel reports that the home will be a total loss.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene until 8:00 a.m., with some firefighters there until noon.
