Omaha Man Injured After Falling Asleep At The Wheel

Hull, Iowa — An Omaha man was taken to the hospital after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his van shortly after 7:00 Thursday morning.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened when a 2017 Ram cargo van, driven by 25-year old Robert Harwell of Omaha, was northbound on Highway 75, four miles northwest of Hull.

Harwell reportedly told deputies that he fell asleep at the wheel, lost control of the van, and entered the west ditch.

Authorities say Harwell was transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by the Hull Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the van was estimated at approximately $25-thousand. Deputies say Harwell was ticketed for Failure to Maintain Control, and Failure to Use a Seat Belt.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hull Fire Department and Hull Ambulance.
