Rock Rapids Firefighters Respond To House Fire Call

UPDATE – Rock Rapids, Iowa– A house was damaged in a fire on Friday, March 2, 2018, in Rock Rapids.

According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Ed Reck, about 4:50 p.m., the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 104 South Adams Street, about a block east of the Casey’s stoplight in Rock Rapids.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke and a little flame from the south windows as they approached the scene. 

Reck says the occupants got out OK, and no injuries were reported. He says when firefighters got inside, the item that was the most involved in fire was a couch in an entry/living area.

He says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Chief Reck reports that there was extensive damage, including significant heat and smoke damage throughout the house.

He says they used about 750 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the approximately 20 firefighters who responded were on scene for just over an hour.

Reck says they were in the right place at the right time to stop the fire in its tracks. He says the Lyon County Ambulance Squad and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Rock Rapids firefighters were called to the report of a house fire in Rock Rapids on Friday afternoon.

About 4:50 p.m., firefighters were called to the second house south of Highway 9 on the east side of South Adams Street. Responding to the scene were the Rock Rapids Fire Department, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Smoke could be seen over a block away at the east junction of Highways 75 and 9, west of Casey’s.
