Second Juvenile Arrested In Rural Larchwood Burglary Probe

Larchwood, Iowa — A second juvenile has been charged in connection with an August 29th incident in which the resident of a home confronted a would-be burglar, causing the burglar to flee.

Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep says his office got a call August 29th from a rural Larchwood residence reporting a burglary in progress. The Sheriff says they think it was a situation in which the would-be burglars knock on the door of the targeted property, and if the knock goes unanswered, they break in. In the August 29th incident, however, somebody WAS home. Sheriff Vander Stoep says the homeowner called 911 while the incident was unfolding, and reportedly threatened to shoot the suspect, causing the suspect to flee.

On September 9th, Lyon County authorities say they executed a search warrant at a rural Larchwood residence as part of their investigation into the August 29th incident, and arrested a 16-year old male juvenile from that residence, charging him with 2nd Degree Burglary, a Class B Felony, along with Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphenalia, both misdemeanors. The young man was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Cherokee.

The most recent arrest, according to Sheriff Vander Stoep, is that of a 15-year old juvenile female who is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, which is a Class D Felony, in connection with the August 29th incident. Vander Stoep says the female was turned over to her parents following her arrest.
