Child Taken To Hospital After Fall From Moving Truck

Ireton, Iowa — A child was taken to a hospital after an accident on Wednesday, November 9th near Ireton.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at 5:38 p.m., 62-year-old Arven Koopmans of Ireton was driving a 1997 Freightliner semi‐tractor westbound on 470th Street, about a quarter mile west of Ireton. A nine-year-old passenger opened the passenger side door in an attempt to close it more securely, fell from the moving vehicle and struck the roadway. Koopmans reported the accident happened when he was traveling about 30‐35 miles per hour.

The Ireton Ambulance transported the child to the Hawarden Hospital. The injuries were described as “minor.”

The Sheriff’s Office reports that the Ireton Fire Department, Ireton Ambulance crew and Ireton Rescue squad assisted them.

The accident remains under investigation.
