Mock Tornado Strike Tests 1st Responder Readiness

Sanborn, Iowa — Eastern Sanborn was a beehive of activity Saturday as 1st responders answered the call for a disaster drill at Prairie View Campus.

According to O’Brien County Emergency Management Coordinator Jerad Johnson, Prairie View Campus staff along with O’Brien County Healthcare Coalition partners and local emergency responders conducted an exercise at Prairie View.  Johnson says the scenario for the exercise was a tornado strike that caused damage to portions of Prairie View Home.  

Emergency responders practiced search and rescue along with triage and treatment.  Prairie View Campus staff had the opportunity to practice establishing their internal incident command system and also coordinating triage, treatment, and transportation of residents.  Johnson says all participants did a great job working together to accomplish all objectives within the exercise.

The local emergency responders participating included members from: Sanborn Ambulance, Sanborn Fire, Hartley Fire, and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, according to Johnson.
