Wet Weather Causes Planting Delays

Northwest Iowa — The wet weather we’ve been having recently has really made it difficult for farmers to get the crop planted.

That’s according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist Joel De Jong.

De Jong gives us an idea of what he’s been seeing in his tours of northwest Iowa.

He says the topic of switching hybrids or switching crops comes up from time to time, and while he says farmers can do some of that — for the most part he wouldn’t be that concerned about it yet.

De Jong says it amazed him how much corn was planted in three days last week. He says if we get a good window, farmers can still take advantage of a pretty good season length.
