Young Farmer Group To Tour Packing Plant

Roast beefLe Mars, Iowa — If you’re a young farmer and you’ve always wanted to see the inside of a packing plant, there’s an event coming up for you. But you need to act quickly.

The “Northwest Iowa Young Farmer Program” is a program designed to empower young farm men and women between the ages of 18-35 to be better business partners through networks and educational peer groups. And you’re invited to join them when they meet quarterly. Their next activity is a tour of Tyson Fresh Meats in Dakota City, Nebraska.

Extension Beef Field Specialist Beth Doran tells us more.

Doran says while some Tyson plants make and package prepared foods, Tyson Fresh Meats is different. She says Tyson purchased IBP in 2001 and the name of the plant changed in 2003.

Doran gives us some details about what they have to do at the plant.

If you’d like to join the Northwest Iowa Young Farmer group on this tour, Doran says you can register with Plymouth County Extension at (712) 546-7835. But you do need to call as soon as possible as the deadline is this Friday at the close of business. Again the tour is Wednesday, January 25th.
