Orabs Split With MOC Floyd Valley in Sheldon

Sheldon Iowa — Sheldon and MOC Floyd Valley split a conference basketball doubleheader Saturday night in Sheldon. The girls game went to the Orabs 47-42 with the Dutch taking the boys game on a 62-49 final.

In the girls game Sheldon opened with a 17-8 first quarter lead. The Orabs were shut out in the second quarter and the first half of the third as MOC Floyd Valley went ahead 22-17 at halftime. In the final four minutes of the third the offense came alive and Sheldon was up 34-32 at the end of the quarter. A back and forth final quarter saw the Orabs finish on top 47-42.

The Lady Dutch had one player in double figures getting a game high 14 from Jazlin De Haan. Jadeyn Schutt added 9 points. Sheldon was led by Brooklyn Grady with a 10 point night. Cassidy Bart and Maliah Kleinhesselink were next with 8 points each.

With the win Sheldon is 6-10 on the season and 3-10 in the conference. MOC Floyd Valley is 9-6 on the year and 9-3 in the Siouxland.

In the boys game the Dutch led at all the breaks taking a 4-3 first quarter lead as both teams found points at a premium.  At halftime the lead was 20-15. At the end of three both teams had begun to find their offense and the Dutch were up 40-29. They went on to win it 62-49.

The Orabs had three players in double figures getting a team high 15 from Tyler Lode. He was joined by Ty Sudbeck with 12 and Mitchal Wolf who hit for 10. The Dutch got a game high 19 from Alex Van Kalsbeek and 18 from Austin Jeltema.

With the win the Dutch are 6-8 for the year and 6-6 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-11 for the season and 2-10 in the conference. Up next for Sheldon is a trip to the Sibley Ocheyedan gym on Tuesday night while the Dutch will host Okoboji.
