Taylor Zeutenhorst Signs With Goldeyes of the American Association

Zeutenhorst_Taylor 2014Winnipeg Canada — The Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association signed utility player Taylor Zeutenhorst on Monday afternoon.

The former Iowa Hawkeye and Sheldon Orab played at three levels of the Seattle Mariners’ organization last season, including eight games at the High-A level for the California League’s Bakersfield Blaze.

In 84 total contests, Zeutenhorst hit .210 with four home runs and 24 RBI between the Blaze, the Clinton LumberKings (Class A Midwest League), and the Everett AquaSox (Class A Northwest League). The left-handed batting Zeutenhorst has been an outfielder and first baseman as a professional, and is also expected to see time at catcher with the Goldeyes.

Zeutenhorst was drafted by Seattle in 2014 as a 38th round pick out of the University of Iowa and has spent the first two years of his professional career in the Mariners’ system. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Zeutenhorst spent four years with the Iowa Hawkeyes, hitting .268 with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 53 games as a senior in 2014. Following his sophomore season in 2012, Zeutenhorst played in the prestigious Cape Cod League for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes begin their exhibition schedule Tuesday, May 10th at home against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The Sioux City Explorers and Sioux Falls Canaries are also members of the American Association. The Goldeyes will be in Sioux City June 6th thru the 8th and will be in Sioux Falls July 7th thru the 10th.
