UPDATE: Sheldon Firefighters Battle Mobile Home Blaze

Sheldon, Iowa — A total loss. That’s how Sheldon firefighters describe a mobile home following a fire late Sunday morning in Sheldon.

According to Assistant Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt, Sheldon fire was paged to 1320 South 3rd Avenue for a mobile home fire shortly after 11:10 Sunday morning. On arrival, Sheldon Fire found the south side and front of trailer fully engulfed by fire. Hindt says firefighters made an exterior attack and then entered the rear of the trailer for an interior attack of the blaze. He says the fire was under control within about 20 minutes.

Hindt says the fire started in the rear of the garage, located on the south side of trailer. It is believed to have started near a chimney of an oil furnace located on the south wall, spread down the south side of the trailer and into the living space of the mobile home. He says that, while the trailer and belongings of the owner are a total loss, the resident was out of the dwelling when firefighters arrived on-scene.

Hindt says firefighters were on the scene until about 1:45 Sunday afternoon, and were back in  service at 3:00 pm after cleaning equipment and reloading the department’s trucks.

The Sheldon Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, Sheldon EMA, Sheldon Police Department and O’Brien County EMA.
