Animal Shed Destroyed In Fire Fought By Four Departments

Boyden, Iowa — An animal shed was destroyed in a fire on Thursday, February 24, 2022, near Boyden.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, about 11:55 a.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire near 3044 Kennedy Avenue, a mile and a half north of Boyden.

The chief says the fire department saw a small shed fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used an exterior attack to fight the fire.

Starkenburg says the animals got out OK and no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Matlock, Sheldon, and George Fire Departments.

He tells us the owner says a heat lamp was the cause of the fire in the four-sided 20-by-30-foot shed.

Chief Starkenburg reports that the shed was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
