Paullina, Iowa — A backyard chicken coop was destroyed in a fire on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Paullina.
According to Paullina Fire Chief Brent Noteboom, about 2:40 p.m., the Paullina Fire Department was called to the report of a chicken coop on fire at 109 North Maple Street in Paullina. He says they extinguished the fire in the small chicken coop in short order. The Granville Fire Department normally comes to structure fire calls in Paullina automatically, but Noteboom says they told the Granville firefighters that they could turn around.
Noteboom says no injuries were reported, and all five chickens were saved.
He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a malfunction in a heat lamp.
Chief Noteboom reports that the chicken coop was basically destroyed in the fire.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 30 to 45 minutes.
