Orange City Woman Airlifted After Lyon County Crash

Lester, Iowa — An Orange City woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital in the aftermath of a two-vehicle crash south of Lester during the noon hour Wednesday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 59-year-old Sheila Rae Janssen, of Orange City, was westbound on 180th Street, about a mile south of Lester, approaching the stop sign at the intersection with Dove Avenue, in a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle. Troopers say Janssen failed to yield at the stop sign and pulled into the path of a northbound truck, driven by 52-year-old Douglas Knoblock, of Larchwood, causing the truck to strike Janssen’s car broadside.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Janssen was airlifted from the crash scene to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with critical injuries.

The report says Knoblock was uninjured in the collision.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
