Boyden Firefighters Save Barn

Boyden, Iowa — A barn was damaged but saved from a fire on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, near Boyden.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, at about 1:00 p.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire at 4238 330th Street, two miles east, a mile south, and a half a mile east of Boyden.

The chief says the fire department saw a little bit of flame as they approached the scene. He says a passerby had started extinguishing the fire with a garden hose, and they took over. He says they went through the barn and made sure everything was out.

Starkenburg says no injuries were reported. He says there had been some livestock in the barn, but they were all okay.

The fire department was assisted by the Sheldon Fire Company.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be a heat lamp.

Chief Starkenburg reports that the damage was limited to minor surface charring on the wood on the inside of the barn.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for an hour to an hour and a half.
