Boyden Teen Facing Felony Charge After Allegedly Stealing Merchandise From Sioux Center Walmart

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Boyden teen has been arrested on theft charges after an incident in Sioux Center.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sioux Center Police Department, 18-year-old Sharon Tello Garcia of Boyden is accused of obtaining merchandise from a store without paying for it. She was arrested on Sunday.

The arresting officer states in the criminal complaint that Tello Garcia was witnessed by asset protection employees and caught on video under ringing merchandise several times at the Sioux Center Walmart between January and March of this year. Asset protection employees provided receipts totaling over $1500 worth of stolen merchandise in that timeframe. Store officials estimated Tello Garcia probably stole between five and eight thousand dollars worth of merchandise.

Tello Garcia was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison.

No court dates have been set yet in the case.

Tello Garcia was released after posting a bond.
