Ocheyedan, Iowa — The Ocheyedan Fire Department was called out on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 to a call in Ocheyedan, which by the sound of things, could have been a lot worse.
According to Ocheyedan Fire Chief Dan Hartwig, about 10:45 a.m., the Ocheyedan Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire in the 500 block of Spruce Street in Ocheyedan.
The chief says the fire department saw a burning recliner outside as they approached the scene. He says by the time the firefighters got there, the occupant of the home had thrown the burning recliner outside into the snow.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Chief Hartwig reports that the damage was contained to the recliner, which was totaled in the blaze.
He says the 12 firefighters who responded were on the scene only for a few minutes.
