Calumet Man Injured In Accident That Killed Beresford Man

Beresford, SD — A Calumet man was injured in an accident that killed a Beresford, S.D. man on Friday.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says their preliminary crash information indicates 26-year-old Hendrik Geustyn of Calumet was driving a 2023 John Deere tractor pulling a silage trailer eastbound on 288th Street. It entered the intersection of 472nd Ave and collided with a 2008 Buick Lacrosse, driven by 74-year-old Thomas Erickson of Beresford.

They tell us the Lacrosse came to rest east of the intersection and caught fire. The John Deere rolled just east of the intersection separating from the silage trailer. Geustyn was ejected during the rollover.

They tell us 288th Street is controlled by a stop sign at this intersection.

Erickson sustained fatal injuries and was deceased at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Geustyn was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. They remind us the investigation continues, and that all information released so far is only preliminary.
