Camper Destroyed In Fire In Doon

Doon, Iowa — A camper was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, in Doon.

According to Doon Fire Chief Blake Van Bemmel, about 7:45 p.m., the Doon Fire Department was called to the report of a trailer fire at 500 South Second Street at Jim’s Camper Service.

The chief says the fire department saw a camper fully engulfed in flames as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Van Bemmel says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined. He tells us repairs were being made to the camper, but it didn’t involve anything electrical, so they’re not sure what caused it. He says it was next to a building, but the building was not damaged. Van Bemmel tells us that the camper was owned by a customer of Jim’s Camper Service.

Chief Van Bemmel reports that the camper was totaled in the blaze. He says he was told the camper was seven years old, and cost over $100,000 when it was new.

According to Van Bemmel, the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
