Canadian Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Lyon County AmbulanceDoon, Iowa — A Canadian woman was taken to a hospital after an accident in Doon.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that 19-year-old Hannah Veldman of British Columbia, Canada was driving a 2005 Honda Civic owned by Gina Nelson of Jefferson, Oregon eastbound on 260th Street. The Sheriff’s Office says she failed to stop at the intersection and struck a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 16-year-old Brentyn Krohn of Orange City, who was driving southbound on Gere Avenue.

Veldman was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. No injuries were reported by Krohn and a passenger in his vehicle.

The vehicle Veldman was driving was estimated to be a total loss while Krohn’s vehicle sustained about $9000 in damages.

Veldman was cited on a charge of failure to obey stop sign.

The Sheriff’s Office says Doon Fire and Rescue and Lyon County Ambulance personnel assisted on this accident.
