Charlie’s Bar In Ashton Sustains Fire Damage

Ashton, Iowa — A business was damaged in a fire on Thursday, December 5, 2024 in Ashton.

According to Ashton Fire Chief Andy Gacke, at about 1:00 p.m., the Ashton Fire Department was called to the report of a fire at Charlie’s Bar in Ashton.

The chief says the fire department saw light smoke coming from the roof as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Gacke says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Sibley Fire Department and both Sibley and Ashton Ambulance squads.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be related to the heating unit in the attic. Gacke says they’re not sure if it was an electrical issue or a gas leak.

Chief Gacke estimates that there was at least $70,000 in damage. He says he’s not sure if they’ll reopen soon, but if they do, the new side will be closed for a while, for sure.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about three hours.
