Fire Damages Garage, Contents In Granville

Granville, Iowa — A garage and its contents were damaged in a fire on Monday, January 3, 2022, in Granville.

According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, about 4:40 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a fire in a garage at 728 Ash Street in Granville.

The chief says the fire department saw a two-stall garage with flames coming out of the back, and heavy smoke as they approached the scene. He says they used two attack lines to fight the fire.

Kellen says no injuries were reported. The Hospers Fire Department automatically responds to structure fire calls in Granville, and vice versa.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Kellen reports that there was moderate damage. He says a lean-to on the back of the structure was destroyed, and the remainder of the building had fire and heavy smoke damage. He says one vehicle was also damaged, along with some household items that had been in storage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and ten minutes.
