Fire Near Larchwood Damages Combine

Larchwood, Iowa — A combine was damaged in a fire on Monday, October 21, 2024, near Larchwood.

According to Larchwood Fire Chief Tony DeSmet, at about 3:25 p.m., the Larchwood Fire Department was called to the report of a combine on fire near 170th Street and Cherry Avenue, three miles south and one west of Larchwood.

The chief says the fire department saw the combine on fire with some stubble and a little standing corn also on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire. A farmer with a disk also disked firebreaks.

He says the cause of the fire was probably mechanical failure in the engine compartment.
