Fire Totals Unoccupied House Near Boyden

Boyden, Iowa — A house was totaled in a fire early on Thursday, July 29, 2021, near Boyden.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, about 4:45 a.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 3365 Jefferson Avenue, a mile west and a mile and two-thirds south of Boyden.

The chief says the fire department saw small flames from the front door area as they approached the scene. He says they tried to fight the fire first by an interior attack, but firefighters soon found out that the floor just inside the front door was burned out, so they switched to a roof approach to fight the fire.

Starkenburg says no one was living there at the time, and no injuries were reported.

The Hull Fire Department assisted, by providing a tanker and manpower, according to the chief.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. He says the investigation continues.

Chief Starkenburg reports that with the heat, smoke, and direct fire damage, the home was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene about four and a half hours.
