Firefighters Save Corn Crib Near Granville

Granville, Iowa — A corn crib was saved from a fire on Thursday, May 12, 2022, near Granville.

According to Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen, at about 2:35 p.m., the Granville Fire Department was called to the report of a corn crib fire at 4487 460th Street, about a mile west of Granville.

The chief says the fire department saw the roof was on fire as they approached the scene. He says they extinguished the fire and were able to save the structure. But he does say it sustained “pretty heavy” damage, as most of the roof will need to be replaced.

Kellen says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Alton and Hospers fire departments.

He says a power line came loose in the wind and arced, starting the fire.

He reports that the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
