Spencer, Iowa — A Florida man is in jail following an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday night in Spencer.
Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton says an individual entered the Dynos Convenience Store, which is located at the south junction of Highways 18 and 71 in Spencer late Tuesday night and attempted to purchase a can of beer. Warburton says that while the suspect was speaking with the clerk he allegedly displayed a firearm tucked in his waistband and demanded the money.
Chief Warburton says the suspect then exited the store and, according to the store’s clerk, fled the scene in a newer white sedan, heading west on Highway 71. The Chief Says responding Clay County Deputies located the suspect vehicle and stopped it in a business parking lot a few blocks from the Dynos Convenience Store. He says officers identified the driver as 22-year-old Jaime Salina Munoz of Shalimar, Florida. Warburton says officers were able to take him into custody without further incident.
According to the Chief, officers were able to recover the stolen cash and a CO2 BB gun that was allegedly used in the robbery. Spencer Police then charged Jaime Salina Munoz with Robbery 1st Degree, a Class B Felony, and booked him into the Clay County Jail where he is being held on $25,000 bond.
