Four Fire Departments Fight Hawarden Hog Barn Blaze

Hawarden, Iowa– Four fire departments were called out on Saturday, November 10, 2018 to a fire near Hawarden.

According to Hawarden Fire Chief Duane Schiefen, about 6:13 p.m., the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a hog barn fire at 1996 430th Street, five miles east and two north of Hawarden.

The chief says the fire department saw a small fire in the hog confinement as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Schiefen says no injuries were reported, and the section of the building where the fire was didn’t have any hogs in it.

According to Schiefen, the fire department was assisted by Ireton, Sioux Center, and Hudson fire departments.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, and that there was minimal damage.

He says they used 100 or fewer gallons of water to fight the fire, and the 25 firefighters who responded from all communities were on scene for about an hour.
