Four Students, Two Drivers Taken To Hospital After Truck Vs. School Bus Accident

Oyens, Iowa– Four students and two drivers were taken to a hospital after a truck versus school bus accident near Oyens on Monday, May 20, 2024.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 7:20 a.m., 61-year-old Raymond Holbrook of Sioux City was driving a 2018 Bluebird school bus, owned by the Le Mars Community School District, westbound on 120th Street, four miles north of Oyens or three miles south of Carnes. They tell us that 67-year-old Brian Bachman of Madelia, Iowa was southbound on K64 in a 2016 Peterbilt.

The report says that the school bus driver failed to yield the right-of-way to the truck. The truck struck the bus on the passenger side. It says both vehicles came to rest in west ditch.

The Le Mars Ambulance Squad took all six people to Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Le Mars EMS and Remsen EMS assisted with the response to the accident.
