Hartley Man Taken To Hospital After Calumet Area Accident

Calumet, Iowa — A Hartley man was taken to the hospital after an accident at Calumet early on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:10 a.m., 21-year-old Avery Bush of Hartley was driving a 2003 Ford pickup northbound on Highway 59, at the southeast corner of Calumet.

The report says that Bush allegedly crossed the center line and his pickup began entering the west ditch. He then over-corrected and drove the pickup into the east ditch. The deputy says the pickup then rolled onto its top.

The Sutherland Ambulance took Bush to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center Hospital. His injuries were termed, “serious incapacitating injuries that required immediate medical treatment.”

Bush’s Ford pickup sustained $10,000 in damages, which was enough to total the vehicle.

The deputy’s report says the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
