Hawarden Man Charged With Felony OWI

Hawarden, Iowa – The report of a potentially intoxicated motorcycle rider late Saturday night has led to the arrest of a Hawarden man on a charge of Felony OWI.

According to documents filed in Sioux County District Court, the incident happened shortly after 10:40 Saturday evening, when Hawarden Police received a report of a possibly intoxicated motorcyclist travelling westbound on 15th Street, on a red and black motorcycle.

Police say they located the motorcycle in the 1100 block of H Avenue. The officer said that as he was making an attempt to identify, he observed the motorcycle wreck on the west side of West Sioux Elementary School’s parking lot, at the intersection of 121th Street and Avenue I.

Authorities identify the motorcycle’s driver as 37-year-old Richard Hardy. Police say that when speaking with Harvey, they could smell the odor of alcohol. coming from his person.

Hardy was reportedly arrested on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated, and transported to the Sioux County Jail. According to court documents, Hardy had two prior OWI convictions, which elevated his Saturday night arrest to a Class D Felony.
