Hawarden Man Injured In Hospers Rollover Crash

Hospers, Iowa — A Hawarden man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Hospers late Wednesday evening.

According to a report from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:15 Wednesday evening a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 29-year-old Leopoldo Martinez, Jr. of Hawarden, was eastbound on 400th Street, about two miles west of Hospers. Martinez reportedly told deputies that he fell asleep, at which time he lost control of his car, entered the south ditch and rolled.

Deputies say Martinez was transported by the Hospers Ambulance to the Orange City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the Martinez car is estimated at about $10,000.

Martinez was cited for failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, according to the report.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Hospers Fire Department and Hospers Ambulance.
