Hull, Iowa — A Hull woman has been arrested on felony neglect charges after she was allegedly found driving drunk in Hull.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 24-year-old Rosario Niz Chilel of Hull is accused of driving drunk with her children in the vehicle. She was arrested early on Wednesday.
In his statement, the deputy says Niz Chilel was driving on Highway 18 when she made an improper turn, going up the curb, and onto the lawn of a business. He alleges that Niz Chilel had the odor of alcoholic beverages, and had both slurred speech and impaired balance. He says Niz Chilel admitted to consuming alcohol, showed signs of intoxication, failed standardized field sobriety tests, and registered above the legal limit, both on a preliminary breath test and on the official equipment. He alleges, in addition, that Niz Chilel was transporting her three young children inside the vehicle during the incident, and that the children were not wearing seat belts.
Niz Chilel was charged with three felony counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, all class C felonies. If convicted, Niz Chilel could face up to 10 years in prison on each count. She also faces misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and no valid driver’s license.
No court dates have been set as of yet in the case.
At last report, she remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City without bond.
