Ireton, Iowa — An Ireton teen is facing a serious felony charge and could face several years in prison if convicted.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us they arrested 18-year-old Beau Dawson VanWyhe of Ireton on Friday afternoon.
They say the arrest followed an undercover online investigation in which VanWyhe is alleged to have engaged in explicit conversations with an undercover sheriff’s deputy posing as a 15-year-old juvenile female.
VanWyhe was arrested and transported to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, where he was charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor , a Class B Felony, and Grooming, a Class D Felony. If convicted of a class B felony, VanWyhe could face up to 25 years in prison, with five years for a class D felony.
No court dates have yet been set in the case.
At last report, VanWhye remained in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
The Sheriff’s Office tells us the Sioux Center Police Department assisted in the investigation.
