Larchwood Firefighters Extinguish Grove Fire Near Gitchee

Larchwood, Iowa — The Larchwood Fire Department was called out for a fire on Monday, March 11, 2024, near Larchwood.

According to Larchwood Fire Chief Tony DeSmet, at about 2:40 p.m., the Larchwood Fire Department was called to the report of a grove fire at 1080 110th Street, seven and a half miles northeast of Larchwood near Gitchee Manitou.

The chief says the fire department saw considerable smoke as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

DeSmet says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire may have been a rekindled burn pit.

Chief DeSmet reports that the damage was limited to vegetation.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
