Lester, Iowa — A Lester man was airlifted from the scene of a truck versus train crash near Lester on Monday, November 8, 2021.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office tells us that about 8:15 a.m., 60-year-old Ladell Kellenberger of Lester was driving a 1994 International truck owned by Leuthold’s Plumbing and was traveling eastbound on 170th Street about two miles south of Lester, when he struck a BNSF train that was traveling northbound.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kellenberger was airlifted from the scene of the accident to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His injuries were described as “serious.” The Sheriff’s Office tells us train personnel reported no injuries.
At last report, damage estimates were not available.
They tell us the accident is still under investigation. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Lester Rescue Squad and Fire Department, the Alvord Rescue Squad and Fire Department, Trackside Towing and Mogler Farms assisted with the response to the accident.
