No Injuries Reported In School Bus Rollover Crash

Sioux Center, Iowa — Twelve students and the driver escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when their school bus rolled onto its side five miles west of Sioux Center late Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old Duane Ver Mulm, of Rock Valley, was driving a 2009 Freightliner Thomas 59-passenger school bus westbound on 390th Street when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch, where the bus rolled onto its driver’s side.

Deputies say at the time of the mishap the bus was transporting twelve students of Hull Protestant Schools and Trinity Christian High School. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Deputies estimate damage to the bus at about $20,000.

Ver Mulm was reportedly cited for failure to maintain control.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Ambulance.
