UPDATE: One Dead After Crash Near Le Mars

UPDATE: Authorities have released the name of the victim. According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was 46-year-old Matthew P. Howell of Le Mars.

Le Mars, Iowa — One person is dead as the result of a crash in Plymouth County on Thursday morning.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, they received the call about 6:10 a.m. It indicated there had been a single-vehicle crash on K64 north of C30 approximately 5 miles east of Le Mars.

Deputies believe the single vehicle was traveling north on K64, when the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle lost control. The vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest on a fence line.

The driver, whose name is not being released at this time pending notification of family, was fatally injured.

They tell us the crash remains under investigation.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says that Le Mars Fire Rescue, the Oyens Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department, the Iowa DOT Road Maintenance Department, and Stockton Towing assisted them with the response to the crash.

They also note that K64 was closed for about 5 hours, reopening at 11:45. K64 is the county road that runs south of Orange City, through Carnes.
