Orange City Man Taken To Hospital After Alton Crash

Alton, Iowa — An Orange City man was taken to the hospital as the result of an accident on Monday afternoon near Alton.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:20 p.m. 80-year-old William Aberson of Orange City was driving a John Deere 4440 farm tractor pulling a gravity-flow wagon southbound on Highway 60, two miles south of Alton. They say 37-year-old Travis Lewis of Springfield, MN was driving a 2000 International semi-truck pulling a tank trailer southbound on Highway 60 behind Aberson. As Lewis attempted to pass Aberson, the report says he sideswiped the tractor and wagon.

The Alton Ambulance Squad took Aberson to the Orange City Area Health System. His injuries were described as “minor.”

The John Deere and wagon sustained about $8,500 in damage. The International truck was not damaged; the trailer sustained about $9,000 in damage, according to the report.

Lewis was cited on a charge of unsafe passing.

The sheriff’s office says the Alton Fire Department, Alton Rescue personnel and the Alton Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
