Pickup Totaled In Hartley Fire

Hartley, Iowa — A pickup was totaled in a fire on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, near Hartley.

According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, about 6:35 p.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire at 350th Street and Van Buren Avenue, about three miles south and a mile west of Hartley.

The chief says the fire department saw the 2017 Ford F350 pickup’s front half was on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Meendering says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but according to the driver, the fire started under the hood.

Chief Meendering reports that while the pickup was totaled, the driver had been able to disconnect a gooseneck flatbed trailer, upon which was a skid-loader. He then pushed the pickup away from the trailer.

Meendering says the approximately 12 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
