Rock Rapids Woman Transported To Hospital After Accident

Lester, Iowa — A Rock Rapids woman was taken to a hospital after an accident at Lester on Friday, April 28th.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, about 4:40 p.m., 73-year-old Janice Hoefert of Rock Rapids was westbound on Highway 9 in a 2011 Cadillac, when her vehicle was struck by one driven by 57-year-old Kim Harris of Sioux Falls, SD.

The report says Harris had been stopped at the stop sign and then pulled out onto the highway, attempting to cross, and did not see Hoefert approaching.

The Lyon County Ambulance took Hoefert to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids. Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Both vehicles were considered totaled.

Harris was cited on charges of driving while suspended, no proof of insurance, and failure to yield upon entering a highway. The sheriff’s office says the Lester Rescue & Fire departments, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, the Iowa State Patrol, and Trackside Towing assisted with the response to the accident.
