Sheldon Fire Company Responds To Two Weekend Calls

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company was called out to a couple of calls this weekend.

According to Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt, firefighters were called to 617 Ninth Street at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27th for a power pole on fire. He says when firefighters arrived, they found the power line from the pole to the house had shorted out. He says firefighters stood by until Mid-American Energy arrived. He says they were on-scene for less than half an hour.

Hindt says on Sunday morning, about 10:30, firefighters were paged out for a fire alarm at 600 Union Avenue. When they got there, they found light smoke in the kitchen area, says Hindt. He says it was discovered that the belt on a washing machine was causing the smoke. Firefighters used a pressure fan to remove the light smoke out of the house, and were on the scene for 38 minutes.
