Sheldon Man Could Face 25 Years In Prison If Convicted Of Meth Possession Charges

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man has been arrested on serious felony drug charges after police stopped a vehicle in which he was a passenger in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 22-year-old Rian Engelkes of Sheldon is accused of possession of meth with intent to deliver. He was arrested on Tuesday.

In his statement, the officer says that during the stop on Western Avenue, while searching the vehicle, the officer located nine grams of meth and a scale with meth on it. Also located were a meth pipe with meth in it and a scoop with meth on it. The officer says he saw Engelkes throw some evidence items under the seat.

Engelkes was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver, a class B felony; possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony; and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, also a class D felony. If convicted of a class B felony, Engelkes could face up to 25 years in prison, with five years in prison for each class D felony of which he is convicted. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of interference with official acts.

Engelkes faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Friday, May 10th.

At last report, Engelkes remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
