Primghar, Iowa — A Sheldon man faces a felony drug charge after a traffic stop south of Primghar.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, 43-year-old Shawn Rooney was placed under arrest a few minutes before 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28th, on a charge of driving while suspended. The deputy says that during a pat search Rooney was found to be in possession of a glass methamphetamine pipe.
The deputy’s statement says Rooney later told him that he had drugs concealed on his person. Once at the jail, the deputy says Rooney handed him a baggie containing approximately three grams of a white crystalline substance, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The deputy says that Rooney has seven previous convictions for possession of a controlled substance in the state of Iowa.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, which is a class D felony.
Court records indicate a preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday, August 17th.
