Sheldon Man Injured In Crash Near Merrill

Merrill, Iowa — A Sheldon truck driver was transported to the hospital in the aftermath of a single-vehicle rollover Sunday afternoon near Merrill.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a call Sunday afternoon about a tractor-trailer rig in the ditch north of Merrill. Authorities say when deputies arrived at the scene they located a semi tractor pulling a tanker trailer lying on its driver’s side in the ditch on Highway 75, north of Merrill.

Deputies say the truck’s driver, Thomas Patrick Van Horsen of Sheldon, may have had a medical issue prior to the crash.  Van Horsen was transported by the Le Mars Ambulance to Mercy Medical with non life-threatening injuries.  The 2015 Peterbuilt tractor and 2008 trailer sustained substantial damage, according to authorities.   They say the investigation is ongoing.

Assisting with the crash was Le Mars Fire Rescue, Le Mars Ambulance, Merrill Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, an Iowa Department of Transportation officer and the Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Department.
